Fully Engaged: An endorsement for Mayor Chris Fiore

With the North Haven Village election coming up on June 18, I write to endorse Mayor Chris Fiore for reelection to another two-year term. I urge my fellow North Haven residents to join me in going to Village Hall on election day and casting their mayoral ballots for Chris.
Here’s why I support him, other than having known him and considered him a friend for more than three decades:
His energy and enthusiasm for the job are truly boundless. He seeks out and listens to his constituents and gives his all to tackling their concerns. He eagerly learns the ins and outs of every issue that comes before him and digs for answers and solutions. He’s a joyful doer, and the village has benefited from his service.
There has been a learning curve, sure. After his time as a trustee and now his two years as mayor, voters should reelect him and make the most of all he has mastered in his switch from the world of top corporate management to the hectic schedule of a busy and engaged mayor.
As a village trustee, I don’t always agree with Chris, but I find him always willing to listen and to change direction if necessary. He’s fully engaged. He has given the job of North Haven mayor everything he has, from his oversight of the right-on-track Lovelady Powell Park project and his guidance and support for the tree-protection code that I wrote at his request, to our summer gas leaf blower ban and our outdoor lighting rules, to lower speed limits on Route 114 and the installation of digital speed-feedback signs at key locations. There’s a lot more to list, but I’m trying to keep this short.
In the midst of all that he was juggling at the time, he successfully steered our Village Hall through the extremely challenging aftermath of veteran Clerk-Treasurer Eileen Touhy’s tragic and unexpected death last year.
He’s met other personnel and procedural challenges head on, as well, in recent months, and today — thanks to a great staff and help from the rest of the Board of Trustees — the village is not only back on track but running better than ever.
Honestly, I just can’t understand why any reasonable and well-informed resident would not support Chris Fiore for reelection.
While I’m at it, I’ll add that I’m impressed with every current member of the Board of Trustees: Dianne Skilbred, who is also running for reelection; Claas Abraham, the deputy mayor, who is also running for another term; and Terie Diat, who, like me, is not on the ballot this year.
